What size is Baby D this week?

Yep, still a cantaloupe. See previous post.

New pictures for you

Y'know I am not a fan of posing for photos by my lonesome, but here are a few that Sue took at work.

Um, not quite halfway there?

Ok, no pictures to post tonight (way too sleepy) but wanted to share that, as I thought, I am only 19 weeks along - so I get to relive the halfway moment again next week.

Based on ultrasound weight and length, I am nineteen weeks one day today, so my new due date (although my doctor will still go by the old one, because it's less that two weeks difference) is August 13.

Half way there!! (lots of random thoughts here - warning, long past!!)

Woo hoo!! Twenty weeks - halfway through the forty week cycle of pregnancy! I'm feeling good, still going to the gym for yoga and step classes. The yoga teacher is really nice, she checks in with me a lot and definitely makes sure I'm NOT doing anything bad for the baby (such as laying flat on my back or putting my legs over my head). Step class is still a decent workout, but I have to really watch myself to make sure my heartrate doesn't get too high (over 140 and the baby starts getting cut off from the oxygen supply). I may be a little tired at the end of my days, but that could very well be the lack of full night's sleep I'm getting because I don't sleep well when Gian is on nights. (This is when I miss being able to have a glass of wine to help me sleep a little better!)

I am looking pregnant these days. My colleagues have given me a few names, the most often used being L.B. - Little Buddha. I think B.G. is pretty funny too - Beer Gut.

We have our twenty week ultrasound tomorrow, so hopefully there will not only be belly pics, but baby pics!!

Over the weekend I registered for a lot of baby stuff; and I think there is still more to get! Luckily, I had two moms with me, who were a real help when it came to brands, features, and just explaining what is important and what isn't! (Gian, I think, was quite grateful that I went with them, as the last time he set foot in a baby store, he and I both started getting lightheaded from lack of knowledge and too many options). I am also getting help from my old Stamford friends who are moms now, as well as Baby Bargains (a neat book that compares brands against safety, ease of use, and actual parent feedback, as well as price)(aka BB), and of course, Consumer Reports (CR). Unfortunately, some of the cutest, most fun stuff (including a very functional stroller that both mom friends loved!) was REALLY unsafe, according to both CR and BB. I think the one I got now is a good one...

I did a lot of bleeping with the scanner gun at Babies R Us. However, we also registered on myregistry.com, a relatively new service that let's you register at multiple stores. We did this because many of the great/good items that we are finding via CR and BB are not available at Babies R Us. It's a pretty interesting tool - of course, it appeals to my techie side, this ability to grab anything from anywhere on the fabulous World Wide Web and put it all together in one place.

My nesting instinct (already pretty strong) has kicked in. I have a list of things that need to get done around the house. Some are so silly, like "organize cookbook" but I have this feeling like I just HAVE to do it, and do it soon! Most, unfortunately, I cannot do by myself (carry large boxes of seasonal decorations to basement, paint nursery) and I get such an itch from wanting to get it done, but needing to rely on others!! I'm not used to that - I enjoy my self-sufficiency and the immediate gratification of getting stuff done when I want. Argh!

Oh, and I"m getting a Great Expectations Massage at Blisssssss this weekend, followed by Flex mussels and Pinkberry dessert. Perfect Saturday.

(Do you like all my links in this post?? I have a lot of corporate sponsorship this week....)

Oh - I figured out that if you give me your email, you can receive an automated email when I enter a new post. If you would like that option, let me know.

What size is baby D-lish this week?

It's a cantaloupe!!! From thebump:

Baby's digestive system is busy creating meconium (a tarry black substance made of swallowed amniotic fluid, digestive secretion and dead cells), which will fill the first diaper after birth. And, speaking of the diaper situation... baby's genitals are now fully formed!

OK, I'm not sure I agree with the accuracy of these fruits anymore; I got a sneak peek of next week, and let's just say that if we go by the fruit, baby is SHRINKING. huh?

Why am I not waking up refreshed and ready for my day?

I'll give you three good reasons:

1. this time change has thrown my body out of whack. It is impossible to get up before I see some sort of light coming in behind the curtains in the bedroom.

2. This is a long week (Whatever, my teacher friends know what I'm talking about!) and vacation can't come quick enough!

3. The dreams!! I have had a pregnancy dream every night this week. I wish I could remember them all to share. The strangest one was, I felt little kicks in my belly, and when i looked down, Baby D's hands and legs were sticking straight out of me!!

What size is baby D-lish this week?

It's a mango!! From thebump:
Vernix caseosa, a greasy white substance made of lanugo, oil and dead skin cells (yum) now coats baby's skin, shielding it from the amniotic fluid. (Picture yourself after a nine-month bath, and the need for protection makes sense.) You might actually get to see the vernix at birth, especially if baby is premature.

Ew. These are getting worse each week!!

Baby Bedding

For all interested parties, here's our bedding: Cocalo's "Alphabet Soup."

We will probably be going with a shade of green for the walls. Our floor is a blah cream-colored carpet, so maybe a throw rug.... we'll see.

Baby Bump Pics

I have not been very consistent, here are a couple for you:

At 15 weeks.....

and at 18 weeks!!! What a difference!I really felt it today, you could really see the bump. At the gym, many women who haven't seen me in a few weeks (since I didn't go while I was sick) commented on how big my bump has gotten. It is very bizarre, to look down and see a big belly, but not feel bloated or full or gassy.... :-)

What size is baby D-lish this week?

Aw, Baby D's a sweet potato!!
According to thebump:
"Your fetus has become amazingly mobile (at least compared to you), passing the hours yawning, hiccuping, rolling, twisting, kicking, punching, sucking and swallowing. And, baby's finally big enough that you'll be able to feel those movements soon."

And my husband is pretty great, too.

So my parents were beyond awesome this weekend. My husband was also quite great on Monday, when we both had a snow day.

I wanted to move around a bunch of furniture in the office. Gian wanted to know why.... well, because by doing it now, it will make putting the spare bed in there later a lot easier. There will also be less work to do later. And it forced us to clean the office, considering we couldn't move anything until we cleared all the clutter.

At 6 pm I made him stuffed pork chops for dinner. He told me several times that he thought I was crazy, but he said it with love. AND he never stopped moving the furniture - the huge desk, the TV stand, the wrap-around sectional... he did it all.

Love you baby.

My parents rock.

Have I told you I have the best parents in the world? I do. They are the best. They came to visit this weekend for a belated birthday celebration. I had the best weekend.

Mom and Dad got here Friday; I came home from work and they were already here, made themselves at home and such. The first thing I was instructed to do was open my presents. My God, between Mom and my sister, there will be nothing left on the registry (just kidding, but seriously, they buy way more than necessary!) Baby D got some very cute outfits, as well as a beautiful blankie. Mom got the Boppy, an accessory that, I am told, no mom should be without. I showed them the things we got at the outlets last week, and my mom just could not stop smiling. She is loving this whole journey.

Dinner was my favorite - pierogi. MMMMM. My mom buys them for me so I can make them myself, but they never taste as good as when she prepares them. My grandmother used to make them in her kitchen... I remember sitting with a medium-sized glass and cutting out the pastry rounds that she would put the potato filling in. Pierogi, for me, is comfort food - like mac n' cheese or chili.

Saturday, Mom and Dad helped me scrub the bottom half of the house. Mom and I took an hour and a half to do the fridge. We found some pink nastiness that must have spilled months ago - I'm sorry she had to deal with that. It was sticky, and it was stubborn. She eventually got it all up, brave woman. While we were doing that, Dad was installing blinds in the baby's room. After that, Mom mopped the floors and the stairs. Dad detailed the rooms with the vacuum - I swear, he finds places to vacuum that I wouldn't even think about, like the underneath vent of the fridge (that was gross). I was able to clean the bathrooms, dust, and do windows. For the first time in what feels like an eternity, my house is a safe haven. It is for all of this that my parents rock.

We finished at 2, because that was when the UConn basketball game came on, and they just can't miss their basketball.

We had dinner at Bacchus. By the way, Bacchus makes their own lemonade with sour mix, and it was delicious!! Not that many of you will have a non-alcoholic beverage at the beer capital of New Paltz, but it was tasty....

Sunday we went to church together before they left. When my dad gave me a kiss during the sign of peace, he said it was for "both of you". Aw. My mom is sending him back to do more housework during my April vacation; we have to install some closet bars and shelves, move some furniture in the office, and put up a chair rail in the kitchen. I always get so sad when they leave, especially when Gian isn't home yet and I'm all alone with the dogs. The house just feels emptier. I made another favorite comfort food of mine, green rice casserole, for dinner.... it may not be the healthiest of meals, but it makes me feel warm inside after a weekend with my family.

Love you, Mom and Dad!
